For an island nation with year-round sunshine and a heavy sprinkling of pools, sourcing swimwear (a sartorial minefield at the best of times) can be surprisingly challenging. But bikini salvation is here!

TAKASHIMAYA

Brands: Banana Moon, Bodynits, Gottex, Seafolly, Speedo

Sizes: Varies by brand. A wide range is available, with glamorous Gottex offering up to USA size 16.

The Collection: Recent arrival Seafolly is flying off the shelves. This Australian brand knows exactly how to marry aesthetics and functionality, with mix and match separates in a huge variety of cuts to suit any physique. If functional is all you’re after, the Speedo collection won’t disappoint. Local brand Bodynits offers everything from beautiful bikinis (with UV protection) to water sports bras.

Why We Love It: Choice, choice, choice.

LA CASCARA

OCHO MAEVE

Brands: Baku, Huit, Jets Black Label, Jog, Ocean, Ocean Fitness, Squids, Tee-Pee-To

Sizes: The store stocks swimwear from US 4 (UK 6) to US14 (UK 16). There’s also a handy measuring and sizing chart on the website.

The Collection: Although Ocho Maeve prides itself on providing fairly fashion forward and flamboyant bikinis, the stores also stock a good range of one-pieces and cover-ups for Sandra Dee types. Two shops on the island, one in Novena and one at Kallang Leisure Park, plus an online store.

Why We Love It: It doesn’t matter how petite or wobbly your bits are, staff here will help find the right bikini or one-piece to flatter your shape.

Find it: 101 Thomson Road, 01-28A United Square, 6253 2236. www.ochomaeve.com

ZAKODA

Brands: Kooey, Maaji, OndadeMar, Paradisa, Saha, Sabz, Stepanka

Sizes: XS-XL

The collection: Not for the shy or retiring, by and large this selection has one thing in common: an utter rejection of the ideals of minimalism. Stepanka’s white-tasselled cowgirl bikini, with itsy-bitsy bottoms, would best be worn in the privacy of your own pool: it could well have you arrested for indecency. That said, there are marginally more modest options on display.

Why We Love It: For those not afraid of donning kaleidoscope bright suits, this is heaven.
