My favourite Italian is Pasta Brava (11 Craig Road; 6227 7550). It has a wonderful, homely feel and the traditional Italian fare is excellent, particularly their homemade pastas. Service is always impeccable and the charming owner-chef Rolando Luceri takes great care to ensure everything is just right from the food to the wine to the seating arrangements.

That is so easy to answer. One hundred percent Oso Ristorante (46 Bukit Pasoh Road;
6327 8378). Not only is it my favourite Italian in Singapore, it is my favourite restaurant. Whatever day of the week it is, I always have great time. Truly excellent.

Pasta Brava! Relaxed atmosphere with home-cooked food, where you can taste the ingredients in every bite. Always good to see what wines they have off-menu; I have had a few goodies. Osvaldo (32 Maxwell Road #01-03; 6224 0978) comes a close second.

Modesto’s @ Orchard (1 Tanglin Road #01-09/10), opposite the Forum. I’ve been going there for the past ten years for calzone pizza with extra cheese. Never tried anything else.

La Forketta (Block 9, Dempsey Road; 6475 2298), because the atmosphere on the outdoor verandah is great, the staff is friendly and well-trained, and the seafood linguine is mouth-watering, with such a huge portion of seafood that you can’t even see the pasta underneath it.

La Braceria (5 Greendale Avenue; 6465 5918) or Ristorante Da Valentino (11 Jalan Bingka; 6462 0555) for ambience and top quality ingredients. However, next door to Valentino are two noisy German shepherds that bark all night for fun, and you need to book a week ahead for La Braceria; it’s always full.

We’re from Verona, Italy, so we tend to avoid Italian and opt for other types of cuisine here in Singapore. Having said that, our favourite Italian restaurant here is Ricciotti (B149/50 The Riverwalk; 6533 9060). The pizza is especially delicious, the ambience is great, and it’s a good, casual place to take visiting guests or to have lunch with our kids. Save room for dessert – the affogato (espresso coffee poured over gelato) is divine!

Ristorante Da Valentino is the best for its great menu – especially the lasagne – and excellent service. Oso is our second favourite spot.

Ristorante Da Valentino wins hands down for its knowledgeable and delightful staff, the quality of the ingredients and superb presentation. Yes, the décor is a little tacky and the parking problematic, but that’s outweighed by Valentino’s genius in bringing traditional Italian favourites to life. Then of course there are Perla’s desserts…
