Hort Park is a popular venue for weddings, and as I watched happy couples tasting the Thai treats on their plates at the park’s resident restaurant, Kha, I too wondered how it might feel to get married here.
“Absolutely wonderful,” replied my friend, allowing her stare to linger like mine.
Wishful thinking aside, it’s easy to see why diners at Kha vie for an outdoor table. Neatly lined along the terrace by the pond, they provide a perfect spot to admire Hort Park’s greenery while sipping a Sawasdee Thai ($20), Kha’s signature cocktail.
Dinner began with three signature appetisers, the crab cakes ($21) proving most impressive of the lot. Too often a rubbery disappointment, these were succulent and fried to crispy perfection.
Chef Adun’s wok-fried tofu ($14), inspired by his childhood memories, transported me to his hometown, Chiang Mai, while the tender wagyu salad ($29), with the beef massaged in red curry, oozed flavour.
Among the mains, fresh tiger prawns with sticky tamarind sauce ($30) were a clearly faultless pairing.
The crowning glory, though, was dessert. This Thai take on sticky date pudding drenched in a tamarind caramel sauce ($14) left me whispering “till death do us part” as I stared at my empty plate.
For Valentine’s Day, Kha is presenting “rose-inspired dishes” on their a la carte menu, which should make for a perfect accompaniment to the restaurant’s pleasant ambience and top-notch service.
