There are numerous organisations helping Cambodians to recover from their traumatic past; Tabitha and Caring for Cambodia are perhaps two of the most widely recognised. The Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) in Phnom Penh on the other hand, is a less-known organisation that for years has been doing big things for little people.
A good number of these organisations are targeted at helping Cambodians recover from their recent traumatic past; Tabitha and Caring for Cambodia are perhaps two of the most widely recognised. The Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) in Phomn Penh, on the other hand, is a less well-known organisation that has been doing big things for little people, for years.
Founder of the centre is the British-American Dr Jim Gollogy, or Dr Jim, as he is fondly known. He first came to Cambodia in 1992 with the American Red Cross and worked primarily in the Kampong Speu provincial hospital, providing lifesaving surgery for landmine victims following years of genocide and civil unrest. He later returned to Cambodia, and in 1998 established a hospital – the Children’s Surgical Centre – to provide free rehabilitative surgical services for landmine victims.
