Finding great furniture for children can be a tricky proposition – not only because boys and girls can be so fussy, but because the beds, desks, wardrobes and chests of drawers need to look good and be tough enough to survive the rigours of children’s play.

“We purchased several pieces from them. We ordered the Brooklyn bunk beds, and also had two pieces custom-made for our boys’ bedroom. The first was a desk with a hutch and the second a toy cabinet that is huge and holds tons of toys. The top piece can be detached and serve as a small bench.

I found the customer service fantastic. The staff members are also great with the kids, always offering to keep them entertained at the koi pond or with candy. They even visited my home to see how my furniture would best fit. Their designer offered us practical design solutions and the workmanship was very good. I really like the furniture at Piccolo House. The bed frame for my daughter was perfect; the style was a little romantic and sweet without being overly girly. My son’s was simple, but had a nice sweet touch to it, too.

“I think word of mouth is a very important thing as it’s a trusted source. I did check out other stores that had pieces that I liked, but a friend who had done very thorough research across Singapore decided to go with Ni-night, so I also relied on her opinions.

I saw Ni-night at a fair at Hort Park and really liked the designs. Also, the prices are reasonable and the quality is good. I ended up buying two children’s beds, a bedside table, a desk, a quilt and bed sheets. My children may not have elaborately decorated bedrooms, but the furniture makes the rooms look great.

Majella provides excellent service. We had a small issue with the wrong bed being delivered, but that was soon rectified and overall I was very happy.”

Rebecca and Michael agree it was well worth the wait for their custom-made bed.

“The bed was inspired by an article in Expat Living. It’s a custom-made teak bunk bed that can be broken down into two super single-sized beds in the future.

We went to OriginAsia in Turf City and were impressed with the craftsmanship. Twenty years from now, wherever we are in the world, we’ll look at these beds in our guest rooms and they will remind us of our time in Southeast Asia. After we retire, we hope to open a bed-and-breakfast, and these could be part of our story.

The designer, Rebecca, knew what we wanted and designed a lovely bed to our specifications. When we returned home from the US in August, OriginAsia had delivered and assembled the bed for us. It exceeded our expectations.”
