Grandilite Facial

2 hours, $300

This signature treatment has all the elements of a facial: cleanse, exfoliate, stimulate, hydrate. What cranks it up a good notch or two is the micro-current technology it employs to “retrain” the facial muscles and stimulate new collagen growth for a longer-term lifting and tightening effect.

You know those therapists who shine a thousand watts onto your face and then make you feel bad by tut-tutting over your skin’s dryness, oiliness, pigmentation, large pores or wrinkles? Shirley is not one of them. Her kind compliments put me at ease immediately.

After cleansing, she uses a flat metal applicator attached to a micro-current generator to exfoliate the skin and remove blackheads and whiteheads. Then follows a substantial period of rhythmic massage, using a T-bar and another pronged applicator to pass the current through the skin and muscles in an upward motion, from the upper neck right up to the temples.

Vedure uses only the excellent MD Dermatics skinare range. The serum Shirely continually applies to my skin has, inexplicably, the scent of tequila and lime, so as the micro-current pulses light like a mini-strobe, I can almost imagine myself quaffing margaritas in a club. (This is probably just me, though.)

Next, as an ice-cold hydrating sets and works its magic, Shirley gives me an outstanding neck and shoulder massage.
The verdict? A highly effective, good-value treatment.
