Once upon a time, home entertainment meant dragging a pair of enormous speakers from the living room to the party room, only to rush back to the main console every time a track started skipping or a song came on that was much louder than the others.

Things are a little easier now, and music players much more sophisticated. Here, two readers who recently upgraded their sound systems tell us why their new set-ups are music to their ears.

MUSIC  I’m a casual music fan who enjoys all music genres – jazz, blues, classical, new age, lounge, pop, rock, everything. But jazz is my favourite.  

STORE  Absolute Sound was a recommendation from a personal friend who had a good experience with them. They’re also one of the more established audio companies in Singapore – that’s why we decided to engage their services. Another plus factor is that they had the skills to help install the system in my house (above), which saved a lot of hassle in arranging a third-party specialist.

EQUIPMENT  We bought a Meridian home-entertainment system and media server, and audio equipment from Naim. Our whole family loves the media server – it comes with a touch-screen interface that allows us to play music anywhere in the house through our personal computers and iPhones. It’s a very user-friendly system and we are going to stock it with more audio files for whenever we have a house party.

VERDICT  Absolute Sound provides great audiovisual solutions and carries a collection of notable brands. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a quality home entertainment system.

MUSIC  Both my wife and I really like music and it’s a natural part of our life both at home and on the road. Jazz is our favourite, followed by easy-listening music and old-time favourites. As for classical, Mozart would be our number-one choice.

STORE  Atlas has a great distribution of BOSE products, which I personally think are among the best available. For the price you pay, the quality of BOSE is unbelievable. The designs are neat, too, so it’s easy to find a place for the equipment. A true winner in every way.

EQUIPMENT  We bought a BOSE Lifestyle system. We’re very, very satisfied with what we have. The quality of sound is the number-one feature, followed by the fact that it’s so adjustable to every type of room and fit-out.
